Mitsubishi Main Spindle Drive Upgrade

We received a request to fit a replacement Mitsubishi drive to a CNC laith. The old drive that had failed was a special product manufactured specifically by Mitsubishi for the laith manufacture and was no longer available, so the decision was made to replace the unit with a modern Mitsubishi A800-E inverter drive.  The old drive had been removed from the machine by somebody else then shipped to one of our partners. Here the drive was stripped down and the main bord was able to be powered up just long enough to extract the parameter set. We took this parameter set and converted it to work with the new A800-E inverter drive. We then took the new A800-E to site to fit it into the machine tool. This was the stuff of nightmares as we hadn’t removed the original drive it was quite a challenge to figure out how it all went back together and not to mention several broken cables! However, after some head scratching and perseverance the new drive was fitted back into the machine. It powered up fine but wouldn’t accept the run forward or reverse signals from the machine tool controller. This was easily fixed by moving the NPN/PNP jumper on the main board and the machine tool was back up and running.
